haha yeah ..take a loop from the fear sample pack..combine it with a small loop from the quake 1 soundtrack..put some grain delay and bit reduction on it - and you got a creepy soundscape.. hehe ,never fails [teeth]

that again has to do with compression.
i shot this footage in dv but as i was manipulation a lot - i changed the codec to uncompressed as soon as i rendered the first passes out of shake ...if i would have kept the dv codec - there would be nasty artifacts in the video because i would use a shit codec again and again to composite my video...
i keept it uncompressed until the end and used a h.264 compression (320x240 / 25fps / keyframe every 250 /sound: AAC 128kbps 44,1Khz)
the fact that it's b/w makes compression also easier

the good quality is the result of the source codec...dv is a shit codec..and if you compress it with another codec the results get worse.

but changing the codec only makes sense if you manipulate the picture a lot - normal rule is never change the codec if not neccesary.

having seen your video - i asume you work with a small dv camera with one chip for color sampling (look out for 3 chip CCD cameras)
so picture quality will be low as soon as you capture the footage.

you should also try to work with quicktimes instead of avis..the codecs are much better and production proven

think about it as working with mp3s..if you work with a 128kbps file - the mixdown will sound shit.
