Starting Point?

Post by piercedmilo »

So, I've been toying with the idea of trying to learn how to make tunes again.

I've done photo and video editing and I can use the NLE tools in programs like Audacity no problem. The issue I always have is getting my head around things like drum pattern programming and sequencing.

So, any ideas where a 40 years old idiot should start?

I don't personally use it, but perhaps the free version of fruity loops might work for you? If it's drums you're looking to get a grasp of, a step sequencer like that is a good place to start - makes it easy to visualize the pattern.
